Serving the People of Cork for 60 years

We are celebrating 60 years in business here in Minihans on Oliver Plunkett Street. Minihans Chemist was set up by Liam Minihan in1955. Since that time we have seen many changes taking place both in the field of pharmacy and in Cork City Centre itself. It is now run by Liam’s nephew John Minihan and his wife Trish who took over the business in 1995. Here are some old photos for you to enjoy.

Here is a lovely picture of Liam Minihan, John Minihan’s uncle, back in 1967, sitting next to him is 60’s icon Mary Quant who was introducing her range of cosmetics at the time.

Minihan’s functions as a traditional chemist and dispense medicines on all prescription schemes in Ireland. We also specialise in cosmetics and are renowned for our perfumery, skincare and haircare ranges. As well as the customer service one gets in a local business such as Minihan’s, the shop also stocks well known labels such as Vichy, Nuxe, Ralph Lauren, Dior, Armani and Chanel.

Here is John Minihan holding up a newspaper clipping on a feature that was done on Minihans in the early days.

This is an old picture of Oliver Plunkett Street along with one of the early ads from 1955. So much has changed since then and yet so much has remained the same. While we have great relationships with so many of the people of Cork, we still enjoy meeting new customers all the time. We have so many long term customers now that we really see them as friends.

Another blast from the past. Service with a smile.

Since our very early days we have also stocked skincare products and perfumes from the French brand Guerlain, one of the oldest French perfumes houses in the world.

We look forward to the next 60 years where we’re sure to see a whole lot of new developments in pharmacy, fragrances and of course Cork City.
